Looking for a Cherry

Vonnegut said,
so it goes.

So it did,
so it does,
so it ever will.

I suppose some truths
just can’t be topped.

 Pulpit

There are some people who preach love
but the message is hollow
because they do not first love themselves

There are others who preach love
and it is genuine
but they are naïve
and so it does not spread

I guess the point is:
If you want to change the world
shut up with all the preaching
and just start living it

Heart-Shaped Phoenix

Cobain quoted Young by writing,
it’s better to burn out
than to fade away.

I would suggest
that there is plenty
of gasoline to go around…
so we can dance
around these flames
for quite awhile
before our little hearts
have had their fill
of fiery fun.

5 * Dining

Blackened fish falling from the sky
hooked, plucked, sunk, fried
twisted rhythms of the cycle
one belly full and one filleted

Red wine pouring from eternal spring
stoppage theory has no sway
pleasure, passion, satiate the beast
mortal flesh is just the start

Sugar symphony is delivered nightly
star shine orchestra swallows the grace
no more niceties at the carving table
it’s lust come lately then crash into sleep

Publicity Pulse

News spreads like a wildfire
by word of mouth
throughout the internet
across the seas
over the airwaves
from one side of the world to the other

 Dose up on life
however you choose
I’ll use
wine, oxygen and stale memories
to spur evolution onward
Get to the point
before I’m distracted
You take
time, energy and money, money, money
out of my mouth
when I’m urging for a feast
Suck dry the passion
with those vampire fangs
I like them
in my skin, in my hair, to my veins
just to make sure I still feel.

 Satiating Needs
by  Scott Thomas Outlar

Some people
put a seed
in the ground
and then
start screaming
for it to grow.
But you need time
and you need patience
and you need water
and you need nutrients.

Some people
write a song
in their room
all alone, and then
expect the band
to bring the tune.
But you need time
and you need patience
and you need will
and you need talent
and you need friends.

Some people
pop a pill
in their mouth
down their throat, and then
think the high
will float right through.
But you need time
and you need patience
and you need music
and you need a pen
and you need paper
and you need…

Bio:

Scott Thomas Outlar survived both the fire and the flood – now he dances in celebration while waiting on the next round of chaos to commence.  Otherwise, he keeps things fairly chill, spending the days reading, taking meditative walks, gazing at stars, laughing at life’s existential problems, flowing and fluxing with the tide of the Tao River, and writing prose-fusion poetry dedicated to the Phoenix Generation.  His words have appeared recently in venues such as Section 8 Magazine, Mad Swirl, Corner Club Press, Dissident Voice, Dead Snakes, The Kitchen Poet, W.I.S.H, and Medusa’s Kitchen.  More about Scott’s writing can be found at 17numa.wordpress.com.
