Once, he was at the top,
spinning stories and giving advice,
his words lapped up on the ground
as if the listeners were thirsty
dogs.  Once,
he was celebrated and known,
but there is an old saying about
pride and the inevitable fall,
and so he crashed down, paper thin,
a gossamer being crushed,
now rebuilding from below.
