Satiating Needs
by Scott Thomas Outlar
Some people
put a seed
in the ground
and then
start screaming
for it to grow.
But you need time
and you need patience
and you need water
and you need nutrients.
Some people
write a song
in their room
all alone, and then
expect the band
to bring the tune.
But you need time
and you need patience
and you need will
and you need talent
and you need friends.
Some people
pop a pill
in their mouth
down their throat, and then
think the high
will float right through.
But you need time
and you need patience
and you need music
and you need a pen
and you need paper
and you need…
Bio:
Scott Thomas Outlar survived both the fire and the flood – now he dances in celebration while waiting on the next round of chaos to commence. Otherwise, he keeps things fairly chill, spending the days reading, taking meditative walks, gazing at stars, laughing at life’s existential problems, flowing and fluxing with the tide of the Tao River, and writing prose-fusion poetry dedicated to the Phoenix Generation. His words have appeared recently in venues such as Section 8 Magazine, Mad Swirl, Corner Club Press, Dissident Voice, Dead Snakes, The Kitchen Poet, W.I.S.H, and Medusa’s Kitchen. More about Scott’s writing can be found at 17numa.wordpress.com.
